illustration: baby yoda!

A new Star Wars movie is out this weekend, but the story that has engaged fans is really in the series, The Mandalorian. Mando and Baby Yoda are the breakout stars. Everything about the series production throws back to the formula of the original Star Wars movies, as in their practical effects, beautiful sets, amazing creatures and engaging actors. Not overdoing the CGI. The show revisits characters and alien species we loved from Episodes IV, V and VI. The element that really works is the simple stories that revolve around Mando and his sidekick, Baby Yoda.

So my fan art illustration goes to Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian.

Since Disney acquired the franchise, the Star Wars story and characters took an interesting direction. Do you like how episode 7 (The Force Awakens) and episode 8 (The Last Jedi) have turned out?

The part I do enjoy is how they breathed new life for a whole new generation and we old school fans get to experience the nostalgia we had as kids. Those opening credits gets me every time. And John Williams’ musical score still gives me tingles.

I created fan art postcards in celebration of Star Wars. The set of 4 cartoon drawings are now available at my store.

May the force be with you!

My cartoon celebrates the classic scene from the original Star Wars trilogy. It also honors the old but wise Yoda. I remember as a kid learning how powerful this short wrinkly creature was. It is totally shocking. Right? Yoda is also the perfect representation the idea in Asian culture to respect your elders. In many ways, he is ultimate hero of the galaxy.

By the way, a movie called Solo: A Star Wars is out this weekend. Which is your favorite film out of all of the Star Wars franchise so far?

My brother is a big fan of Star Wars, as am I. And he recently had a baby boy. I drew a cartoon as a homemade card to send to him. What do you think of it?

I wanted to do a fan art sketch for Star Wars, so here it is. It’s R2D2 as a projector. Can you say blockbuster? Are you ready for Star Wars: The Last Jedi? I’m on line already!

Sorry all. I was missing in action for a bit. But that’s because New York Comic Con happened last week and I had a lot of enjoyment walking the floor and meeting fellow geeks while putting my dSLR to good use. Here are some pics from the show. I shall return with more artwork to share soon. Enjoy!

comic con new york 2009

March 3, 2009

Here are some pics, I took at New York Comic Con in February 6-8 2009. I attended all three days. It’s not as big as San Diego’s, but it is steadily growing in popularity. Both Comic Con’s are so much more than comics. It’s also the movies, toys, and costumes. A couple of pics, below, feature the Fringe panel. Sadly, the next NY Comic Con won’t return until October 8, 2010. That’s a year and a half away! Ugh.
