sketch: tennis ready

March 14, 2021

Spring is around the corner and there is more daylight, now that we spring forward our clocks! To me, that means, I can play tennis again (not to mention paddling and fishing too). Yay! The great outdoors is my gym, so I can finally get in shape again. In celebration, I do a drawing of a player that is ready to do a serve. If you’d like to see more of my drawings, please check out my store :)

What activities are you looking forward to do as the weather warms up? Let me know!

Happy Spring Everybody!

G’day Mate! The Australian Open is happening down under now. All of the best tennis players, such as Osaka, Barty, Nadal and Federer, gather from around the world to compete on the biggest court stage. It is probably my favorite tennis tournament. Not just because it is a beautiful location but it is known as the “Happy Slam”. This is my drawing of a player bouncing the ball before a serve.

Who do you want to win?

It’s that time of year for Wimbledon! Tennis coverage begins at 7am EST Monday July 2 on ESPN.

My drawing is of a lady tennis player getting ready to serve an ace. Tennis is my favorite sport to sketch. Have you noticed?

Happy 4th of July, everybody!

tennis serve toss

This is my action drawing of a player in mid toss during a serve. Where’s the tennis ball you ask? It is thrown so high that it is out of the frame. The higher the toss, the faster the ball will hurl towards the opponent. All top players, like Sharapova, for example, strive to win free points by achieving a well-placed ace.

What Easter means to me is spring and warm weather.  Today is very mild in the Northeast.  And warm weather means tennis.  Here is my sketch of a player getting ready to serve the ball. Happy Easter!

sketch: tennis serve

The Australian Open is on now which means hours of watching Tennis Channel and ESPN2.  The Open will run two weeks.  This is a sketch of the Croation, Cilic, serving.  I always wanted to capture the motion of a serve.  Cilic is a very tall slender player at 6 foot 6 inches.  He is so tall that it looks like I’m exaggerating his extension.
