star wars_postcards_by_al_lau

Since Disney acquired the franchise, the Star Wars story and characters took an interesting direction. Do you like how episode 7 (The Force Awakens) and episode 8 (The Last Jedi) have turned out?

The part I do enjoy is how they breathed new life for a whole new generation and we old school fans get to experience the nostalgia we had as kids. Those opening credits gets me every time. And John Williams’ musical score still gives me tingles.

I created fan art postcards in celebration of Star Wars. The set of 4 cartoon drawings are now available at my store.

May the force be with you!

The whole concept of downsizing and having a smaller footprint on this beautiful planet intrigues a growing population of homeowners. Not to mention, a life without a 30-year mortgage sounds likes music to our ears. Right?

I made my Tiny House drawings into postcards. If you like collecting postcards or simply love tiny houses, check them out at my tiny store  at designosaurus.etsy.com.

Happy Earth Day everybody!

Here, in the Northeast, the leaves are starting to change. Hear the subtle crunching as you walk outside. Gracefully, they float down from the heavens like orange and yellow snowflakes. Although the air is crisp, the colors will soon illuminate the vista with brilliant warmth.

Do you look at the different shapes and try to identify what tree they are from? What tree is common in your area?

I made four watercolors, and then turned them into postcards. Feel free to check them out at my store.

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi added a new event called Slope Style for snowboarders and skiers. Slope style presentation is more inline, as opposed to alternating jumps on opposite ends of a half-pipe.

This is my drawing of a snowboarder doing a front grab Ollie. It is included in my set of Winter sport postcards in my store.

ladybugs_by_al_lau

Ladybugs, or coccinellidae, are friendly bugs, due to their helpfulness in our gardens and farmlands, however diminutive they are. From the moment they hatch, by the hundreds of eggs, ladybugs get to work and eat the even smaller, yet destructive plant-eating pests known as aphids.

As a defense, the signature bright red coloration of its back deters most predators from eating them. Ladybugs can secrete an oily foul-tasting fluid from their joints, if attacked. If all else fails, they can play dead, retract their head and hide their legs beneath their dome-shaped body much like a tortoise does.

The lifespan of a ladybug is one to two years. During the cold months, ladybugs can overwinter, seeking safety under rocks, old logs and in crevices of houses, at which time they enter a diapause state.

My Ladybug illustrations are part of a set of postcards, available in my store.

drawing: tandem canoe

January 24, 2013

canoe-tandem-by-al-lau

The Canoe is one of the oldest boat designs that dates back to 8000 BC, found in the Netherlands. The earliest canoes were made out of dugout wood or wood framing, then in the mid-20th century, aluminum became a more durable material to use.  Nowadays, canoes are made of lighter materials such as fiberglass, royalex and kevlar, making them more car-toppable. Canoes are best used in rivers, lakes and calm bays.

My third drawing is the tandem canoe.  It is part of a 3-set recreational boat series.  I created these as a group of postcards, available in my store.

This is the backside of the postcard.  It’s important to know where the stamp goes, right?
