figure drawing: crouching

December 28, 2010

I revisited figure drawing this week.  It’s a good exercise for every artist to keep the skill of drawing people fresh, regularly. Even if the only place to find people is in a park or a coffee shop.  It helps with practicing important techniques such as proportions, perspective, shading and keeping a fluid line.

illustration: wonder woman

December 9, 2010

Inspired by my adventure at NY Comic Con, I created a fan art illustration of the iconic American super heroine, Wonder Woman. Next to Supergirl and Green Lanter girl, Wonder Woman was a popular female comic book character at the show, at least, according to my flickr page. Who is your favorite superhero?

painting: three trilobites

December 2, 2010

Trilobites were prehistoric anthropods that existed in the waters during early the Cambrian age (525 million years ago) to the Permian age (250 million years ago). Mainly, bottom-feeders, their diet consisted of plankton.

My watercolor painting illustrates three trilobites passing each other in the shallow ocean floor. Naturally, the only evidence of their activity appears in fossil form, but I wanted to depict them as alive. After all, the trilobite species reigned on the Earth for hundreds of millions of years.
